Adele, “Hello”

Last week Adele’s latest music video was released.  I didn’t know much about it, other than it was her first release in a couple of years.  Upon clicking play, I immediately recognized the format – film.  Director Xavier Dolan opted to shoot 35mm and gave the video a unique monochrome look that we rarely see today.  After doing a little research I found out that two of the scenes were actually shot on IMAX, which is pretty crazy considering the viewing environment for most music videos.  All in all, I really enjoyed the song, look, and grade.  I hope to see more artistic and creative decisions like this in the future.

UPDATE

It looks like color grading buddy Jim Wicks did his homework and found out a little more about this video.  He was able to conduct a really interesting interview with the colorist, Jerome Cloutier.  Check out his thoughts and the interview here.
