I love these sites that display the color palettes of our favorite movies. I have posted similar links in the past and they really showcase the subtle decisions that help set the tone and feel of a movie. The people at Pixar are masters at evoking all sorts of emotions from their audience. Their entire catalogue is one box office smash after the other. By appealing to both adults and children they have carved out a unique niche that few have been able to replicate. This wide range of appeal hits on many levels, but at it’s root it originates from an emotional impact on several levels – both conscious and unconscious. These color palettes are the base for the unconscious emotional impact. Certain colors evoke feelings and by playing specific colors off of each other, Pixar is effectively able to squeeze every bit of emotion out of a scene.
