Advanced Technologies = Enhanced Experiences

As colorists, there is a fine line between the creative and technical aspects of our jobs.  We need to be able to address our work in a manner that allows for an innovative and unique approach.  But at the same time, we need to be aware of the new technology that is constantly changing and evolving.

I have seen some pretty big transitions so far in my career – film to digital, SD to HD, linear to non-linear workflow, just to name a few.  Sometimes it’s hard to tell what will stick as a staple in the industry, and other times it’s obvious.  The most important thing is that we recognize these changes and realize how they influence us while allowing us to produce a better product.

In this article featuring Technicolor colorist Timothy Vincent, he discusses the challenges that colorists face as new technologies kick us out of our comfort zone and force us to adapt.  Ultimately it’s all for a better final result.  While there may be times where it’s far from easy, it’s a necessity in this industry.  And if you refuse to admit that, you won’t be in the game very long.
